The Artist Who Outworks You (and Why It’s You)

Good morning Art Supply Members Club,

I recorded a quick video just for you — it won’t be shared anywhere else — and I wanted to pass along a moment I had while filming a recent vlog.

That day, I was on a tight deadline, trying to complete three paintings before picking up my kids. After finishing two, I sat at my desk staring at the last blank canvas and thought, “I’ve done enough. I should just wrap it up.”

But then another thought came over me: What if another artist, sitting in my spot, would outwork me tenfold?

It wasn’t about hustle culture — it was about becoming the version of myself who doesn’t settle. So, I chose to get up, put the distractions away, and finish that third canvas. The art itself didn’t change my life, but the decision did.

This moment reminded me of something important: our thoughts are a battlefield. On one side, they tell us to rest, play it safe, and stay comfortable. But on the other side lies the work that makes us better, the creations that might inspire someone else, and the fulfillment that comes from using the gift we’ve been given.
